Portal Redesign
As I continue adding tactics, audience targeting, and overall functionality while scaling our self-service business, I want to improve the campaign creation flow. One thing I had in mind when creating this campaign is how might we improve the flow to scale for upcoming functionality so that we don't have to redesign or rearchitect the experience as often?
Project overview:
Challenge
-
How might we improve the order of the flow to better guide our users to the best possible campaign optimized for their objective so that we can scale self-service creation?

Design Hypothesis
To redesign a portal that will meet our users' current and future needs.
My Role: UX + UI Designer, UX Researcher
Team: Sr. UX Designer, Sr. Researcher, Developers, Product managers, Stakeholders
Software
Figma, Miro, Zoom, Pen & Paper
Project Duration
4 Weeks
Discovery & Research
UX Project Management/Planning
I was eager to begin working on the project, so I create a project plan to keep track of the project.

User Research:
Competitive Analysis
Before I start working on the project and meeting with the team, I want to identify what my competitors are doing that make them successful.

Discovery Workshop & Affinity Map
I facilitated a team workshop with our stakeholders, product manager, designers, and developers to share my findings from the competitive and comparative research on what the portal should have for our users to have the ability to create a successful campaign.
Workshop takeaway:
-
Campaign Objectives should dictate how the flow works
-
People are split on the order of audience/channel
-
Option to skip the creative step or add it later
-
We need to make sure we align with the sales/media planner
-
Upgrading should be easy and contextual (e.g. display what options go with higher tiers)
-
Business rules impact configurations made throughout the creation process

User Flow
I notice that the current flow was missing critical steps such as campaign objective (the ultimate goal of the campaign), audience selection (a specific group of customers that are most likely to respond positively to the messages, products, and services), channels/tactics (if the information will be shared by email, social media, and text marketing), and creative to create a successful campaign for our customers which the proposed flow will include.

Ideation & Design
Sketching
To start brainstorming ideas to generate solutions, I go to my favorite material pen and paper. This allowed me to empathize with our users.

Wireframes
As I start creating the wireframes on Figma, the number one thing I keep thinking about is "our users". I made sure every step and design have everything they need and guidance. They will have the ability to save the information they input, and the ability to get tips while creating the campaign (clicking on ). Ability to see current and pending campaigns. Opportunity to save and use previously saved/existing campaigns.

In Conclusion
Redesigning the portal was the first client project that I owned and led. I enjoyed scheduling meetings and facilitating workshops with our stakeholders, developers, designers, and product managers. I got to experiment and learn different ways to filter information. Working in a team allowed me to collaborate and shared our different/unique ideas to create a solution for our users. Communication was key throughout the project with our family and team members to ensure that all needs were met. This project helped built my leadership and communication skills while working in a team.
After completing the wireframes, I got it ready to pass off to the next UX Designer as I get ready to work on my next project/product (UX Research on our users' campaign creation journey.... shhh, It's a surprise). The next UX Designer will work on:

-
Set up a feedback session with stakeholder/relevant team
-
Incorporate feedback into the design
-
Usability test
-
Create prototype
