Amended Sad Path PDF Download
Streamlining access to vital information by notifying users when state-formatted PDF assessments are ready for download.

Project Overview
At Centene, we prioritize timely access to state-formatted PDFs for our members. Our new feature notifies users when the state-formatted PDF assessments are ready for download, streamlining the process and ensuring quick access to vital information.
How Might We effectively inform our users when the state-formatted PDF is being generated and ready for download?
My Role: UX Designer

Ensure alignment with design system guidelines for component consistency.
-
Facilitated design handoff to team members, including developers and the product owner.

Current Design

Option A

Option B

In the current design, Jennifer did not know when the state-formated PDF was ready to be downloaded without trying to download it. I thought about:
-
How will Jennifer be informed when the download is ready?
-
How can Jennifer know when the download is ready on the landing page?
-
What notification Icon can be used for consistency with other icons on the Kebab menu?
Option A maintains our current design, displaying a disabled download menu with a tooltip indicating that the "download will be available once the PDF is created." On the other hand, Option B introduces an icon with a loading spinner and a tooltip to signify that the "download is processing."
Final Design

I chose option A as the optimal design solution for Jennifer. In this design, the landing page will display an hourglass timer and a tooltip that informs users that the PDF is being created. When Jennifer clicks on the kebab menu, she will notice that the 'download' menu is disabled, accompanied by a tooltip that reads 'Download will be available once PDF is created.' Once the PDF is ready for download, the 'download' option will become enabled, maintaining consistency with the previous design for downloading when it's ready.
Reflection
Working on this feature has been a valuable learning experience. I gained proficiency in handling icons within a kebab menu, and this design will not only benefit my platform but also ensure consistency across various platforms. This project has further honed my leadership, collaboration, and communication skills as I worked with my team. Looking ahead, the next steps for this feature include:
-
Conducting user testing to gather valuable feedback.
-
Integrating the received feedback into the design to enhance user experience and functionality.
